It is fun to stand atop a tenement block, surveying the ruined skyscrapers, bubbling chemical wastelands and devastated evacuation centres, working out how to cross distances without hitting street level. It never feels quite as good as, say, Insomniac’s ludicrously instinctual Spider-Man, but navigating this intricate playground provides the game’s strongest moments. This was a hallmark of the first title, of course, and it’s just as well implemented here. Aiden is much safer if he stays on the rooftops, leaping from building to building, using architectural features, ropes and ladders to maintain verticality. ![]() Where that game’s unique selling point was its swarms of AI monsters, Dying Light 2 has parkour. Indeed, Dying Light 2 feels like a B-movie undead reskin of Far Cry or Assassin’s Creed – rather like Days Gone. Everywhere you go there are hidden weapon caches, bandit camps and train stations to unlock for fast travel, and windmills that must be powered up to create safe houses – a game design trope instantly recognisable to anyone who’s played an open-world adventure since 2012’s Far Cry 3. ![]() The various territories of the city are all teeming with the undead, and also side-quests. Sound familiar? If you’ve played a zombie game in the past decade, it certainly should. You take on missions for various shouting sociopaths, all competing to either save the world or blow it up, or some unfeasible combination of the two. ![]() Here, three warring tribes endlessly fight for resources, using a familiar combination of melee combat and unconvincing dialogue. The search for his long-lost sibling has led him to a sprawling city somewhere in Europe. A iden is a pilgrim, a nomadic survivor who wanders the zombie wastelands of Dying Light 2, taking goods from one settlement to another like some sort of post-apocalyptic Deliveroo rider.

You can create an alpha map by creating a Texture with information in the alpha channel, or by creating a grayscale Texture and converting the grayscale values to alpha in Unity. You can use an alpha map to apply varying levels of transparency to a Material. You also have the option to generate a normal map from a grayscale height map image.Īn alpha map is a Texture that contains only alpha information. Unity uses normal maps encoded as RGB images. Normal maps are used by normal map Shaders to make low-polygon models look as if they contain more detail. Most Mali GPUs support Texture dimension sizes up to 4K for cubemaps. The Texture Importer only allows you to choose dimension sizes up to 16K (that is 8192 x 8192 px).More info See in Glossary Model 2 (PC GPUs before 2004) / OpenGL ES 2.0ĭX9 Shader Model 3 (PC GPUs before 2006) / Windows Phone DX11 9.3 level / OpenGL ES 3.0ĭX10 Shader Model 4 / G元 (PC GPUs before 2007) / OpenGL ES 3.1ĭX11 Shader Model 5 / GL4 (PC GPUs since 2008) More info See in Glossary texture dimension size (px)ĭX9 Shader A program that runs on the GPU. For DirectX, the maximum Texture sizes for different feature levels are as follows: Graphics APIs / Feature levels ![]() Note: Specific platforms may impose maximum Texture dimension sizes. You can scale up NPOT Texture Assets at import time using the Non Power of 2 option in the Advanced section of the Texture Importer. In general, you should only use NPOT sizes for GUI purposes. This process uses more memory and makes loading slower (especially on older mobile devices). If the platform or GPU does not support NPOT Texture sizes, Unity scales and pads the Texture up to the next power of two size. However, NPOT Texture sizes generally take slightly more memory and might be slower for the GPU to sample, so it’s better for performance to use power of two sizes whenever you can. It is possible to use NPOT (non-power of two) Texture sizes with Unity. The Textures do not have to be square the width can be different from height. Ideally, Texture dimension sizes should be powers of two on each side (that is, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048 pixels (px), and so on). This format changes automatically depending on which platform you are building for. When importing from an EXR or HDR high dynamic range See in Glossary file containing HDR information, the Texture Importer automatically chooses the right HDR format for the output Texture.
Miguel is the only mask less man in this contest so let’s hope I have my mask knowledge up-to-date. Match #1: Fatal 4 Way match: Black Taurus w/ Crazzy Steve vs Rey Horus vs Laredo Kid vs Trey Miguel ![]() ![]() We are straight into the action for the evening, with an X-Division Fatal 4 Way. It was a hard-hitting and even match up, that I would put in my top 10 matches of the year so far. The opening video focused on the Impact World Championship match at Emergence between Josh Alexander and Alex Shelley. Impact Wrestling 18/8/22 from Cicero Stadium Chicago, Illinois Over the next few weeks, I am sure we will see build-up to both of these shows, with some major matches established for the PPV. I hope to avoid spoilers as the weeks go on! The next Impact Plus special is Victory Road on September 18 th, followed by a big Pay Per View in Bound for Glory on October 7 th. Impact has taped a few weeks of shows after being in Chicago over the weekend. What mind games will the Impact intruders look to play after cementing a chance at championship gold? Also at Emergence, Honor No More defeated Bullet Club in a 10-man tag match, earning a shot at the Good Brothers’ World Tag Team Championships. Will Masha establish herself as the new challenger to Grace’s title on tonight’s show. Afterward, Grace was confronted by the undefeated Masha Slamovich. Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace was also successful in her championship defence, outlasting Mia Yim in a terrific contest. Shelley tried everything in his arsenal to win the championship in his very first title match, but ultimately came up short. ![]() Last Friday night on Impact’s Emergence special, Josh Alexander successfully defended his championship against Impact veteran Alex Shelley. The road to Bound for Glory begins tonight! How will he fare against Bullet Club’s Chris Bey? Also on the show, Heath looks to continue his recent dominance over Honor No More, as he takes on Kenny King in singles action. X-Division Champion Mike Bailey was in action, defending his championship for the third time in 8 days. This week’s edition of Impact Wrestling featured a 6-man elimination match to determine Josh Alexander’s challenger for the Impact World Championship at October’s Bound for Glory. That's a strange place for that key, but since at least 9 times out of 10 I hit that key accidentally in its typical location, I don't mind having to hunt for it on the rare occasion that I want the cursor to gobble up the text in front of it. The oddest layout adjustment here is that the insert key gets relegated to the F10 key. There's also a fingerprint reader built into a key above the right corner of the touchpad (basically taking the place of the right control key) that you can use to log into Windows (or you can use the webcam and its IR sensors for facial recognition). So the power button is fairly fumble-proof. The power button is stiffer than the rest of the keys, and a quick press like you might make while typing isn't registered by the laptop anyway. In case you're worried about the power button placement, I never accidentally put the laptop to sleep while typing. And one key over from that is a dedicated power button, just to the left of the delete key in the right corner. The F12 key is customizable, while the key to the right activates a physical shutter for the webcam. The company has obviously put some thought into that top row, though. The latter isn't a huge deal, but there is obviously more space on the keyboard deck for taller keys, which puts a slight ding in the whole ultra-premium, no compromises vibe. And the function row up top is still tiny. The up/down arrow keys are half-height and squished between the left/right keys. The keys are flat, but well-spaced and big enough not to hinder typing - for the most part. But both the X1 Carbon and XPS 13 Plus did better here, getting close to or above 1,500 MBps.Īs far as two-pound ultraportables go, the keyboard on HP's Elite Dragonfly G3 is very good. That's reasonably speedy for an office productivity laptop, and easily better than the ThinkPad Z13's 930.38 MBps on the same test. HP's ultraportable transferred our 25GB of test files at a rate of 1,157.23 MBps. This time it was the AMD-powered ThinkPad Z13 that finished first, in just 7 minutes and 9 seconds. That was more than a half minute behind the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (12:33) and well behind everything else. ![]() On our Handbrake test, in which we task laptops to transcode a 4K video to 1080p, the Dragonfly took 13 minutes and 9 seconds. ![]() That's pretty close to the competition on the single core test, but the Dell XPS 13 and its P-series CPU did noticeably better, with a score of 1,797, and everything else in our comparison group did better than the HP on the multi-core test, with the Dell again coming in first with a score of 10,621. On Geekbench 5, an overall performance test with an emphasis on the CPU, the Dragonfly posted a single-core score of 1,647 and a multi-core score of 6,501. But there are two fans and a heatpipe in the laptop keeping thermals in check. In all but the most hushed environments, you'll likely forget it has fans at all. We'll see shortly how that lands when it comes to performance, but I will say that the HP Elite Dragonfly G3 is extremely quiet. The U-series CPU is an interesting choice when competitors like the Dell XPS 13 Plus and Lenovo's Yoga 9i Gen 7 are opting for higher-power Intel P series CPUs. Our review configuration of the HP Elite Dragonfly G3 came equipped with an Intel Core i7-1265U CPU, 16GB of DDR5 RAM and a 512GB SSD. I have found a rather cute thing on the Web: an interactive sagittal section. Any book on phonetics will show numerous of these cut-away pictures to explain the differences between sounds. X-ray photography enabled the position of vowels, for example, where the tongue lies in or near the centre of the mouth, to be charted with accuracy.įamiliarity with these diagrams is essential to linguistics students. Visualization of the relevant anatomic details, corpus callosum and cerebellar vermis in particular, was noted by both. In this view, the cerebral hemispheres, because of their great size, are still the most obvious structures. The axial section and sagittal section of the thoracic vertebra showing. Of course the still anatomy had been known for centuries, but it is notoriously difficult even for a trained phonetician to be quite sure what their tongue is doing on a particularly tricky sound. The Midline Sagittal Surface of the Brain When the brain is hemisected in the midsagittal plane, all of its major subdivisions plus a number of additional structures are visible on the cut surface ( Figure 1.14 ). The sagittal section enhanced the image of the brain showing marked nodular enhancement under the pia mater (arrow) (A). Structures as the pons, cerebrum, cerebellum, medulla oblongata and spinal cord can be appreciated in this sagittal. Sagittal sections are now sketch diagrams, but were originally based on x-ray photographs of people actually speaking, or at least carefully making the sounds, in the early 1900s. Description: Sagittal section of the brain. The nasal cavity is drawn in, but obviously nothing above that is used for speech (after it's left the brain), so that's as far as it goes. As she also remarks, this kind of truth-telling is rarely easy and will evoke criticism from others who are invested in fitting in. As she points out, language that dehumanises anyone is wrong-wherever and whoever it comes from. I admire her courage in spotlighting this paradoxical behaviour. Either way, the choices we’re making to protect our beliefs and ourselves are leaving us disconnected, afraid, and lonely.” “Most of us are either making the choice to protect ourselves from conflict, discomfort, and vulnerability by staying quiet, or picking sides and in the process slowly and paradoxically adopting the behavior of the people we’re fighting. This isn’t a book that tells you what to think, but rather gives you the tools and the courage to reject the idea of being on a particular “team” altogether and stand beside what you know to be true. One of the things I appreciate most is the way Brown isn’t trying to push a particular agenda, but instead encourages us to stand up for our own agenda, based on our values, principles, and beliefs, rather than going with the status quo or aligning ourselves with a particular group out of fear or peer pressure. If I have to be like you, I fit in.”Īs our culture trends more and more towards warring collectives, Braving the Wilderness is a breath of fresh air. Fitting in is being accepted for being like everyone else. One of my favourite distinctions she makes in the book is that between fitting in and belonging: The result is a moving and perspective-shifting book that shows us how to stay connected (and sane!) while everyone around us seems to be breaking off into “us and them” factions based on emotional triggers and faulty logic. While still sharing the research-based findings she is well-known for, this book interweaves data with stories from Brown’s own life and interviews with others. The eponymous wilderness is the space we have to be willing to go in order to be ourselves, to live with authenticity, and to speak up for what we believe in with integrity. Not only that, but when we desire to fit in with a group who shares one of our beliefs or values, we might end up adopting all of their beliefs and values in an effort to stay connected to them, even those that are irrational or require us to disconnect from our true selves. ![]() While this is a well-worn strategy for finding community, things can go wrong when we start basing our shared ground on a dislike, even hatred, of “the other”-people who think differently and have different beliefs and value sets to us. We have a tendency to meet our need for belonging by seeking out people who think the same things we do and share our beliefs and value sets. Rather than seeking to find belonging amongst friends, people who think the same way we do, or other groups, we need to get familiar and comfortable with our own beliefs, values, opinions, thoughts, and feelings first. The central message is this: true belonging starts with ourselves. ![]()
